Guwahati: Rohit Sharma reached another major milestone in his ODI career on Wednesday, becoming only the seventh batter in international cricket to score 12,000 runs in the format and the third Indian after Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli to achieve the feat.

The 39-year-old reached the landmark during India’s second ODI against the West Indies while scoring a half-century in India’s chase of a 406-run target.

The milestone puts Rohit in an elite group of ODI run-scorers that includes some of the most prolific batters in international cricket.

For India, he joins Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli as the only three batters to have crossed 12,000 ODI runs.

Rohit second-fastest to 12,000 ODI runs by balls faced

Rohit reached 12,000 ODI runs after facing 12,973 deliveries, according to the figures cited in the report.

He is the second-quickest batter to reach the mark in terms of balls faced, behind Virat Kohli, who reached 12,000 ODI runs after facing 12,853 deliveries.

The statistic adds another notable detail to Rohit’s record in the 50-over format.

Rohit’s achievement places him among just seven batters in ODI history to have scored at least 12,000 runs. The landmark reflects his long career at the highest level and his consistency in a format in which he has been one of India’s leading run-scorers.
