New Delhi: India’s top overseas Test batter Rishabh Pant is unlikely to feature in India A’s third unofficial Test against New Zealand A in Lincoln, scheduled from 7 to 10 November, as he continues to recover from a side strain sustained during last month's Irani Cup match in Srinagar.

The 28-year-old wicketkeeper-batter, who holds Test centuries in England, Australia, and South Africa, is currently undergoing a rehabilitation programme at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. He is yet to clear the mandatory fitness test required to join the India A squad.

Should he pass his second fitness assessment in the coming days, Pant is expected to fly directly to Wellington to join the senior national squad ahead of the Test series.

"There is very little chance that Pant will play the third unofficial Test against New Zealand A. The team management might want to give him a few days more to recover and join the team for the Test series and train in Wellington. There will be clarity after his second fitness test," a BCCI source told PTI on conditions of anonymity. (PTI)
