LSG captain Rishabh Pant fined Rs 12 lakh for slow over-rate during the 2026 IPL match against CSK. Read the full details of the IPL Code of Conduct breach here.

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain Rishabh Pant has been fined ₹12 lakh even after his team’s convincing seven-wicket victory over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the IPL 2026 clash held in Lucknow on Friday. The penalty was imposed for a slow over-rate offence, making it a key disciplinary action that came despite LSG’s winning result.
The sanction was confirmed under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which deals with minimum over-rate violations. Since this was LSG’s first offence of the season, Pant was handed a monetary fine of ₹12 lakh by the IPL authorities.
The IPL’s official statement clarified that the punishment was strictly related to the team’s over-rate and not the match outcome.
The fine was issued because LSG did not complete their overs within the time allowed during the match against CSK at the Ekana Cricket Stadium.
In cricket, a slow over-rate refers to a situation where a team fails to bowl its full quota of overs within the stipulated time limit, often due to delays between deliveries, field changes, or on-field stoppages. The IPL enforces strict time regulations to keep matches running on schedule for broadcast and tournament flow.
What does the IPL over-rate rule mean for captains?
Under IPL regulations, captains are held responsible for ensuring their side completes bowling innings within the allowed time. Slow over-rates can disrupt broadcast schedules and overall match flow, which is why the league enforces strict penalties.
Despite the disciplinary setback, Pant had positives to take from the game as LSG registered a comfortable win over CSK. He also praised young pacer Akash Singh for his disciplined bowling performance and highlighted the importance of maintaining clarity in team strategy during the season.
