In a major setback for Prithvi Shaw, the opening batter has been omitted from Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy squad, reportedly due to concerns over his attitude towards fitness and discipline. While the team management has not officially disclosed the reasons for his exclusion, sources suggest that Shaw's recent behaviour has raised red flags.
The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) selection committee, led by chairman Sanjay Patil, has opted to drop Shaw for at least one match in the ongoing season. According to a report by Cricbuzz, his indiscipline has become a pressing issue, prompting selectors and management to take decisive action.

Shaw's late arrivals to net sessions and his perceived lack of seriousness during practice have reportedly frustrated team officials. Additionally, there are concerns regarding his fitness, with many describing him as overweight, which further highlights a lack of commitment to his profession. In contrast, veteran players like Shreyas Iyer and Shardul Thakur consistently demonstrate dedication to their training.
The decision to exclude Shaw was reportedly a collective agreement, with input from both the captain and the coach, indicating a united front in addressing his behaviour.
Shaw, who made his Test debut for India against the West Indies in 2018, has struggled in his recent outings, scoring just 7, 12, 1, and 39 not out in the two Ranji games he played this season. As he aims for a return to the national team, this latest development could hinder his prospects considerably. (With inputs from Agencies)
