Rawalpindi (Pakistan): Persistent rain in Rawalpindi led to the washout of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 match between Pakistan and Bangladesh, according to the official website of the International Cricket Council (ICC).

Both teams had already lost their previous matches against India and New Zealand, eliminating them from the race for a semi-final spot. While both sides aimed to finish their campaigns with a victory, they instead shared one point each due to the abandonment.

Hosts Pakistan have had a disappointing tournament on home soil. They suffered a 60-run defeat against New Zealand in the opening match in Karachi and then lost to India by six wickets in Dubai, which all but ended their semi-final hopes.

Bangladesh, on the other hand, lost their first game to India, who chased down the target with six wickets in hand. Their subsequent five-wicket loss to New Zealand confirmed India's and New Zealand’s places in the semi-finals. With no chance of progressing further, today's game in Rawalpindi was only a formality for both teams.

Earlier on Wednesday, Afghanistan pulled off a remarkable victory against England in a thrilling Group B encounter of the Champions Trophy.

Batting first, Afghanistan recorded their highest-ever total in an ICC Men’s ODI tournament. Ibrahim Zadran made history by scoring 177—the highest individual score in Champions Trophy history—as Afghanistan posted 325/7.

Despite a strong fightback from Joe Root, Afghanistan’s bowlers secured a stunning win. Azmatullah Omarzai emerged as the standout bowler, claiming 5/58.

With this result, England is now out of semi-final contention, while Afghanistan remains in a three-way battle for a spot in the last four alongside Australia and South Africa.
