Colombo: A special guest made an unpredictable entry on the ground on the second day of the ongoing test match between Afghanistan and Sri Lanka. The ‘out of the blue’ entry forced officials to stop play for a while. The incident happened at the Sinhalese Sports Club while Sri Lanka were batting.
Excited to know who the guest is?
In the 48th over of the Sri Lankan innings, when Dinesh Chandimal was preparing to face Afghan bowler Nijat Masood, the umpire signalled to stop the game. For a moment everyone was bewildered, but then they could see the clear visuals of a Monitor Lizard making its entry into the ground on the giant screens placed in the stadium. The play was paused until the unexpected guest moved out of the ground.
That was probably one of the rarest sights on a cricket field!
If you remember, in August 2023, a snake was spotted on the ground at the Colombo cricket stadium during a match between Galle Titans and Dambulla Aura.
The frequent cameos of cute little animals on the cricket field may well not be great news for the players!
