Islamabad: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has appointed former South African first-class cricketer and coach Michael Smith as the batting coach of the Pakistan men's team.

Smith will oversee batting across both Test and limited-overs formats. The 46-year-old enjoyed a domestic playing career between 2003 and 2013, featuring in 89 first-class matches, 72 List A games and 16 T20s.

He brings considerable coaching experience, having worked with several Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchises, including Islamabad United, Karachi Kings and, most recently, Multan Sultans as assistant coach. He has also served as batting coach for Australia's Hobart Hurricanes and Cricket Tasmania, besides working as a coaching consultant with South Africa's KZN Inland and Eastern Province.

Appointed on a two-year contract, Smith will begin his role ahead of Pakistan's three-match Test series against England, which starts on August 19.

Pakistan are currently engaged in a Test series against the West Indies and sit ninth in the ICC World Test Championship standings. (ANI)
