Vignesh Puthur, a 23-year-old left-arm wrist spinner from Malappuram, Kerala, made his impact in the IPL 2025 during Mumbai Indians' campaign opener against Chennai Super Kings on Sunday. Introduced as an Impact Player, Puthur immediately showcased his skills by taking three key wickets. He dismissed Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shivam Dube, and Deepak Hooda in quick succession, helping Mumbai tighten their grip on the match.

Puthur, signed by Mumbai for a base price of Rs. 30 lakh, is yet to represent Kerala at the senior level, having only played at under-14 and under-19 stages. His cricket journey began with medium pace and spin before transitioning to leg spin under the guidance of local cricketer Mohammed Sherif. After moving to Thrissur, Puthur made a mark in the Kerala College Premier T20 league, and consistent performances for Jolly Rovers Cricket Club led to his inclusion in the Kerala Cricket League, a turning point in his career.

Coming from a humble background, Vignesh's rise to stardom is an inspiration for several young cricketers in the state.
