Delhi Capitals pacer Lungi Ngidi was rushed to hospital in a neck brace after a dangerous fall while attempting a catch during the IPL 2026 clash against Punjab Kings.

Delhi Capitals’ fast bowler Lungi Ngidi suffered a serious injury during the IPL 2026 match against Punjab Kings at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on Saturday, after an awkward fall while attempting a catch left him with a suspected head and neck injury.
The incident took place in the third over of Punjab Kings’ chase when Ngidi backtracked in an attempt to complete a catch off Priyansh Arya.
He lost balance while moving backwards and landed heavily on his head. The South African pacer remained on the ground immediately after the fall, prompting swift medical attention from the team physio and doctor.
An ambulance was brought onto the field as concern grew among players and spectators. Ngidi was later placed in a neck brace before being taken off the field for further medical evaluation at a hospital. The match was halted for over 15 minutes as medical staff attended to the injured bowler.
The situation visibly affected players from both sides, with teammates and other players looking on in concern as medical personnel managed the on-field emergency. The atmosphere inside the stadium turned tense and silent during the treatment.
Delhi Capitals later brought in Dushmantha Chameera as a concussion substitute for Ngidi as the match resumed. However, there has been no official update yet from the franchise or team management regarding the extent of the injury or his condition.
