Trade talks ahead of the upcoming IPL mini-auction are intensifying, with major focus on the Delhi Capitals (DC) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). The buzz centers around KL Rahul, who has caught KKR’s attention as they search for a captain and a top-order wicketkeeper-batter. Despite several informal discussions between Rahul and KKR management, the potential high-profile trade with DC has stalled due to KKR’s lack of suitable assets to tempt DC into releasing their marquee player.

DC reportedly proposed three trade combinations — a direct swap involving Sunil Narine, a package of Angkrish Raghuvanshi and Rinku Singh, and most recently Harshit Rana with Raghuvanshi. However, KKR have been reluctant, considering Rinku and Harshit as long-term core players. DC, on the other hand, have been firm that Rahul will only move if a player of similar stature is offered in return.

Since Abhishek Nayar’s appointment as KKR head coach, multiple trade scenarios have been explored, but none have materialized. Nayar’s connection with Raghuvanshi, whom he has mentored personally, adds another layer to the negotiations. DC’s interest in Raghuvanshi is understandable, as he is a JSW Sports (co-owner of DC) athlete and has long been on their radar.

Meanwhile, DC are close to finalizing a separate trade deal involving Sanju Samson, Tristan Stubbs, and an uncapped Indian player. However, integrating both Rahul and Samson poses a tactical challenge — particularly in deciding batting positions alongside Abhishek Porel.

For KKR, the leadership issue remains pressing after last season’s struggles under Ajinkya Rahane. With limited captaincy options likely in the auction pool, acquiring Rahul remains their ideal solution.
