Colombo: India handed a debut to spin bowling all-rounder Saransh Jain after captain Shubman Gill won the toss and elected to bat against Sri Lanka in the second Test on Sunday.

India hold an unassailable 1-0 lead in the two-match series, following a dominant 165-run victory in the opening Test in Galle.

Sri Lanka also introduced fresh talent to their line-up, awarding Test debuts to batters Kamil Mishara and Pasindu Sooriyabandara.

Saransh entered the side in place of Kuldeep Yadav, who remains sidelined as he recovers from a viral infection.

However, the left-arm spinner remains available as a concussion substitute if required.

"Mr Kuldeep Yadav has not fully recovered from his viral illness. He was unavailable for selection in the Playing XI for the second Test against Sri Lanka. However, he can take the field as a concussion substitute, if required," the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said in a statement.
