Centurion: The third T20 match between India and South Africa was unexpectedly interrupted by a swarm of insects at SuperSport Park Stadium in Centurion. Just as South Africa began their innings, the insects descended onto the field, causing trouble for the South African batters and Indian fielders alike.
In the second over, as Hardik Pandya prepared to bowl, the situation worsened, making it difficult for players to remain on the ground due to the insect invasion. This led the umpires to temporarily halt the game.
The match resumed after about half an hour when the ground staff used machines to clear the insects. The interruption was caused by flying ants, which are commonly seen during rainy seasons.
At the end of the proceedings, India secured an 11-run victory over the Proteas in the game taking a 2-1 lead in the ongoing four-match T20I series.
