“People enjoy watching me hit sixes and I am thankful for their support, but my cricket goes beyond that,” the player said in a recent interview.

When one thinks of Rinku Singh, the image that instantly surfaces is of towering sixes and breathtaking finishes. His explosive batting for Kolkata Knight Riders made him a household name, with the defining moment arriving during the 2023 IPL clash against Royal Challengers Bangalore. On that day, he dismantled Yash Dayal’s over with five consecutive sixes, a feat that turned him overnight into one of Indian cricket’s most exciting stars. Since then, Rinku has steadily established himself as a dependable middle-order presence for India, particularly in the T20 format.
In a recent conversation with The Times of India, Rinku opened up about his broader ambitions, making it clear that he does not want to be typecast as merely a T20 specialist.
“People enjoy watching me hit sixes and I am thankful for their support, but my cricket goes beyond that,” he reflected. “In the Ranji Trophy, I average more than 55, which shows how much I value red-ball cricket. I have also represented India in ODIs and delivered a good performance in one of those games. I firmly believe I have the ability to succeed across formats if I am given consistent opportunities.”
He further underlined his ultimate dream of donning the whites for India. “I don’t like being seen as a player suited to just one format. My dream is to play Test cricket for the country. If that chance comes, I will be ready to give my best.”
Rinku also credited Suresh Raina for inspiring his approach. “Raina bhaiya has always advised me to stay prepared for every challenge. He played most of his career in the same position where I bat and produced countless match-winning knocks. I look up to him and would love to emulate his impact by becoming a player who contributes to India across all formats.”
Rinku Singh’s words highlight his hunger to grow as a cricketer and his deep admiration for those who paved the way before him. His determination, coupled with his ability to perform under pressure, positions him as a strong contender to make the leap from a limited-overs specialist to a genuine all-format player for India.
