Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has drawn the curtain on his Indian Premier League career after confirming he will not register for the IPL 2026 player auction. The 36-year-old announced the decision in an official statement on social media, thanking franchises, teammates and fans while saying the league had “helped shape me as a cricketer and as a person.”
Maxwell confirmed he has not submitted his name for the 2026 player auction, ending a 13-year stint in the IPL. The hard‑hitting right-hander, nicknamed “Big Show,” debuted in the IPL in 2012 and went on to represent multiple franchises, including Mumbai Indians, Kings XI/Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore, becoming one of the league’s most marketable overseas stars.

In his farewell note, Maxwell expressed “a lot of gratitude for everything this league has given me” and said performing in front of Indian crowds provided memories and challenges that would “stay with me forever,” while signing off with “Cheers Maxi,” a line widely interpreted as a goodbye to the competition rather than to cricket altogether. He did not use the word “retirement,” leaving the door open for continued appearances in international and domestic T20 competitions.
Maxwell had already retired from one-day internationals in June to manage his workload and extend his T20 career. His ODI exit followed recurring injury issues and a modest IPL 2025 campaign, during which he was sidelined with a finger injury after a run of low scores for Punjab Kings.
