Despite Punjab Kings narrowly missing out on their maiden IPL title in the 2025 season, head coach Ricky Ponting earned praise for his leadership and rapport with the squad. In a light-hearted interaction shared via the team’s official X handle, Ponting engaged in a candid exchange with PBKS co-owner and Bollywood star Preity Zinta. The conversation centred around Ponting’s famously dual nature—intensely aggressive during matches yet composed and cheerful off the field.

Zinta expressed her curiosity, asking how someone could be so fiery on the pitch but remain calm and affable otherwise. In response, Ponting joked that she should join him in the dugout to witness his true emotions during a match. He admitted that his aggression stems from his deep-rooted competitive spirit, especially when cricket is involved. However, he assured that outside the game, he’s lighthearted, friendly, and always open to conversations over coffee or jokes.

Ponting also emphasised his commitment to delivering high performance, stating that he refuses to waste time when it comes to training or match preparation. His goal, he said, is to push every player to be their best, holding himself to the same standard. The coach is hopeful of a great comeback from his team in IPL 2026. (With inputs from Agencies)
