Ishtiaque Sadeque resigned from his position as a director of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on Saturday, the same day Bangladesh was removed from the 2026 T20 World Cup. The team was replaced by Scotland after the BCB decided against travelling to India for the tournament, citing security concerns. The World Cup is being co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh’s withdrawal triggered widespread discussion within cricketing circles.

In an interview with Cricbuzz, Ishtiaque cited personal and family commitments as his reason for resigning. He explained that he was unable to dedicate the necessary time and effort to his role in Game Development, expressing regret that he could not meet the demands of the position. In the conversation, he emphasised that his decision was not due to any misunderstandings, grievances, or issues with other board members, and maintained that he continues to have positive relationships across the BCB.

Ishtiaque, also former chairman of the BCB Development Committee and a close ally of BCB Chairman Aminul Islam Bulbul, expressed confidence in his successor’s ability to advance Bangladesh cricket, assuring that he would continue to support the board despite stepping down.
