Dubai: Pakistan cricketers Haris Rauf and Sahibzada Farhan have completed their ICC hearing following allegations of provocative behaviour during the recent Asia Cup match against India, and tournament sources suggest that sanctions may be imposed, reported PTI.
The hearing, conducted in Dubai on Friday, was prompted by a formal complaint from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), which cited inappropriate on-field gestures and conduct by the two players.
According to sources close to the development, Haris Rauf is likely to be fined for “abusive language and aggressive gestures” made during the high-intensity encounter between the arch-rivals on Sunday.
Sahibzada Farhan, however, has denied any wrongdoing. He has pleaded not guilty to any breach of the ICC’s Code of Conduct in connection with his celebratory actions during the match. Farhan defended his actions, stating that his "gun-fire" celebration was rooted in cultural tradition.
“It is a traditional way of celebrating in his ethnic Pakhtun tribe,” Farhan reportedly told the disciplinary panel.
The ICC has yet to officially announce its verdict, but penalties—at least in Rauf’s case—appear imminent, according to tournament insiders.
