In a remarkable match at Chepauk, Ravichandran Ashwin achieved a stunning milestone, a five-wicket haul and a century in the same match. Yet, amid the triumph, his wife, Prithi, expressed her disappointment over a lack of attention on the first day.
In a lighthearted post-match chat shared by the BCCI, Prithi playfully quizzed Ashwin about his Daughter’s Day gift. “What would you give them?” she asked. Ashwin quipped, “I would give them the ball I picked up a fifer with,” only for their daughter to dismiss it outright.
Reflecting on his performance in front of the home crowd, Ashwin said, “I didn’t expect to walk in to bat here and get a hundred. Every time I come here, it feels special. There’s some energy in this ground that keeps me going.”
Prithi, not letting him off easily, asked if his performance had boosted his energy levels, noting his absence during the match. “It’s difficult for me to look out for the family when I’m playing,” he admitted, adding with a grin, “I do make a conscious effort, but the kids often ask, ‘Why didn’t you say hi?’”
Despite the playful teasing, Prithi acknowledged the joy of the day: “Congratulations on your second hundred and a fifer in Chennai. The kids had a great time—it’s been a perfect Sunday morning.”
Ashwin concluded with gratitude, saying, “Thank you for being there and bringing me good luck.” (With inputs from Agencies)
