Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty have ended their long wait for the China Masters title with a hard-fought comeback victory over China's He Ji Ting and Ren Xiang Yu in Shenzhen. The Indian pair recovered from a slow start to win 11-21, 21-13, 21-17 and claim their maiden China Masters Super 750 crown.

The victory is particularly significant ahead of the Asian Games, where Satwik and Chirag will defend their men's doubles title. Chirag said winning the tournament has given the pair a major boost and showed that their preparations are moving in the right direction.

Satwik-Chirag finally break China Masters jinx

The Indian duo had reached the China Masters final twice before, finishing runners-up in 2023 and 2025. They had also reached the semi-finals in 2024, making their first title in Shenzhen a long-awaited achievement.

The final initially looked difficult for the Indians. He Ji Ting and Ren Xiang Yu controlled the opening game with their pace and attacking play, winning 21-11.

Satwik and Chirag responded strongly in the second game. They increased their intensity, improved their defence and forced their opponents into errors to level the contest with a 21-13 win.

The deciding game remained closely fought, but the Indian pair held their nerve in the crucial final stages to complete a 21-17 victory and seal the championship.

A major confidence boost before the Asian Games

Satwik said the China Masters has traditionally been a positive tournament for the pair, particularly when they have returned from injury setbacks. He added that the latest victory had given them confidence after a difficult period.

Chirag also underlined the importance of winning a title so close to the Asian Games. He said the result provided a boost and suggested that the work they have been doing is moving in the right direction.

The pair now plan to return home and continue training before heading into the Asian Games, rather than becoming complacent after the China Masters victory.

The China Masters is Satwik and Chirag's second title of the 2026 season. They previously won the Singapore Open Super 750 and finished runners-up at the Thailand Open Super 500.

The latest victory also ends a frustrating run at the China Masters, where they had repeatedly come close without winning the title.

Their comeback against the Chinese pair is therefore not only another major tournament victory but also a result that strengthens their momentum before the Asian Games.

From disappointment to comeback

The China Masters triumph comes only weeks after the pair's disappointing exit at the World Championships in New Delhi. Their run in Shenzhen has provided a timely response as they look to regain their best form.

The victory was also achieved despite the physical challenges the pair have been managing. Reports noted that Chirag continued to deal with a strapped back while Satwik has been managing a shoulder issue.

Their ability to fight back after losing the opening game was another positive sign, particularly with the Asian Games approaching.

With the China Masters title secured, the focus now shifts towards the Asian Games. Satwik and Chirag will enter the competition as defending champions, carrying the confidence of a Super 750 title won against home opposition in China.

For the Indian pair, the immediate task is to use the remaining preparation period to sharpen their game and manage their fitness.

The China Masters victory does not guarantee Asian Games success, but it gives the pair exactly what they wanted before the major event — confidence, competitive rhythm and proof that they can recover from difficult situations against top opposition.
