Kozhikode: Kerala general education minister V Sivankutty on Thursday said that meat will be served in school Kalolsavam starting next edition. The Kalolsavam manual will be updated to include non-vegetarian food on the menu, he said.

Sivankutty was reacting to criticism of vegetarian menu that the arts fest has been following for years despite over 90 per cent of the state population being meat eaters.

The event follows a vegetarian menu due to the difficulty in handling large quantities of meat. But the department does not wish to court any controversies in this regard, he told mathrubhumi.com.

15,000 students attend the event. We are worried about their health. Next year, students will be asked about their food preferences and include both cuisines, he said.
