Kozhikode: Even unnoticed talents are being recognised at the 61st State Youth Festival, which also features the works of students from a special school, the Mar Thoma School for the Deaf. In this residential school, the students spend their leisure time doing what they are most passionate about after finishing their studies.
Handicrafts made by hearing-impaired students Jitendra Nath from the tenth grade and Kishen Raj from the eighth grade turned the State Youth Festival into a platform to display their handicrafts.
"They might be treated differently in this world, but they are more capable than the ordinary human being in many fields," Swapna one of their teachers said.
Biju, another teacher who accompany the boys for helping them in their communication exclaimed with pride.
“ The children from our school are interested in many creative and scientific subjects. I think with support and guidance, they can do more than one could expect,” he expressed confidence about the children.
Their teacher also briefed up about their work during the Work Education Fest.
“The products and crafts made by them were outstanding compared to those of any other typical student since they put the utmost heart into their work,” he added.
Jitendra Nath communicated his excitement and expressed that he enjoys engaging in all of these activities through sign language. Many students from the school contributed to the exhibition.
They arrived with full of anticipation and confidence to share their works with the world and make a little money from them. They will utilise the money from the expo for their personal and educational needs. The cost of production has been provided by the government. Materials for the work have been purchased from this fund. The school's pupils embroidered several decorative pieces and nightgowns for the exhibition. Beyond the financial gain from such an endeavour, they require more opportunities like this to showcase their talent and establish themselves in the spotlight of the world.
