Conspiracy theories swirl as haunted Annabelle is rumoured lost—panic spreads, but facts tell another story

A surge of concern swept through social media after claims surfaced that the infamous 'haunted' Annabelle doll had gone missing. The doll, said to be cursed and possessed by a malevolent spirit, was reportedly last seen during a paranormal tour stop in Louisiana. Online users were quick to suggest that she had gone missing while on this US tour, prompting a wave of speculation.
Fire at Louisiana plantation fuels theories
The panic intensified after a recent fire broke out at the historic Nottoway Plantation, also known as Nottoway Resort, in White Castle, Louisiana. While no injuries were reported in the incident, many online users linked the blaze to Annabelle’s alleged ‘presence’ in the state. The doll had been touring various American cities under the care of The Warrens’ Occult Museum.
Viral reactions as rumour spreads
The internet was ablaze with dramatic responses once the rumour began to spread. One user wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter), “I just saw a post on Facebook that they LOST THE ANNABELLE DOLL? I’m fleeing the country goodbye.” Another wrote, “THEY LOST THE ANNABELLE DOLL?? LIKE?? THE HAUNTED ANNABELLE DOLL?? They take her on a tour around America... AND THEN THEY LOOSE HER? BRAH?”
A third netizen added to the frenzy, saying, “wdym the annabelle doll is missing??? who tf lost her??? i was already not able to sleep”.
Rumour debunked
In response to the online uproar, Dan Rivera from the NESPR shared evidence to dismiss the rumours. He posted a video of the doll with a caption that read, “Some wild and crazy internet rumours this morning claiming that we lost Annabelle. She/it is NOT lost, and here’s Dan Rivera with NESPR proving she is back home inside the museum in Connecticut… for now. And no, Annabelle is not supposed to be in Chicago.”
Local authorities have also stated that the fire at the plantation is not connected in any way to the Annabelle doll.
The legend behind the doll
Annabelle is a Raggedy Ann doll that is believed to be haunted. Over the years, many have reported eerie experiences and an unsettling energy when near the doll. Her notoriety led to the production of three horror films inspired by her story: Annabelle (2014), Annabelle: Creation (2017), and Annabelle Comes Home (2019).
