US forces conduct strikes on Iran's Bandar Abbas and Qeshm port. Read the latest updates on the 2026 West Asia tensions and potential impact on global oil routes.

Fresh visuals released by Israel’s War Room reportedly show US military strikes targeting Iranian infrastructure in Bandar Abbas after multiple explosions rocked southern Iran on Thursday, triggering major developments in the ongoing West Asia tensions.
According to Fox News Chief National Security Correspondent Jennifer Griffin, a senior US official confirmed that American forces carried out strikes near the Qeshm port and Bandar Abbas, strategically important maritime locations, “moments ago.” However, the official reportedly stressed that the operation should not be seen as a restart of the Iran-US conflict or the collapse of the current ceasefire arrangement.
"US military just carried out strikes on Iran's Qeshm Port and Bandar Abbas: Senior US official tells me, but this is not a restarting of the war," Griffin posted on X, citing the senior official. She added that the action was limited in scope and not intended to trigger a wider regional escalation.
The reported strikes came shortly after Iranian state media outlets confirmed multiple explosions near these sites in southern Iran, two key locations linked to Iran’s regional security and shipping operations near the Strait of Hormuz.
Iranian state broadcaster Press TV reported that an explosion took place at Bahman Pier in Qeshm during what it described as an exchange of fire involving Iranian armed forces and “enemy forces.” The report, citing local sources, said several additional blasts were heard around Qeshm Island and Bandar Abbas.
State-run IRIB also confirmed explosions at Bahman Pier, claiming the incident occurred during clashes between Iranian forces and unidentified hostile elements.
What makes Bandar Abbas and Qeshm strategically important?
Bandar Abbas and Qeshm Port are considered highly sensitive maritime corridors for Iran, sitting close to the Strait of Hormuz — one of the world’s most critical oil shipping routes. Any military activity in the region is closely watched due to its potential impact on global energy supplies, oil prices, and international shipping.
Despite the explosions and reported military action, US officials quoted by Fox News maintained that the strikes were not intended to signal a return to full-scale war. The clarification comes amid heightened tensions in the region and growing international focus on ceasefire efforts and military movements around Iran’s southern coast.
The situation remains closely monitored as more details emerge from both US and Iranian officials.
