Moscow: Ukraine launched one of its largest drone attacks on the Moscow region overnight, with Russian authorities claiming that more than 400 drones targeted the area, most of which were intercepted before reaching the capital.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said Russian air defence systems repelled the massive overnight assault, preventing the majority of the drones from reaching the city.

"From 8:30 pm (1730 GMT) until 5:00 am, more than 400 enemy drones were flying in the direction of Moscow region. Most were neutralised by air defence forces at distant approaches. 85 UAVs were destroyed on approach to Moscow," Sobyanin wrote on the state-backed MAX platform.

The latest barrage marks another escalation in Ukraine's long-range drone campaign, which Kyiv says is retaliation for more than four years of Russian missile and drone attacks on Ukrainian territory.

Meanwhile, Russia's state-run TASS news agency reported that six people, including three foreign nationals, were hospitalised with blast injuries in the Moscow region.

"Six people with blast injuries of varying severity have been taken to Domodedovo Hospital, three of them foreign nationals," the hospital said in a statement quoted by TASS.

Authorities did not immediately confirm whether the injuries were directly linked to the overnight drone strikes.

Domodedovo, located south of Moscow, is home to one of the Russian capital's major international airports and has previously been affected by disruptions during Ukrainian drone attacks.

The latest strike is among the biggest drone offensives targeting the Moscow region since the war began, underscoring Kyiv's growing ability to project attacks deep inside Russian territory despite Moscow's extensive air defence network.
