Seoul: South Korean investigators confirmed on Wednesday that they will execute the arrest warrant for impeached leader Yoon Suk Yeol over his declaration of martial law within a deadline of January 6. The announcement came as supporters of Yoon gathered outside his residence in Seoul, rallying in his defense.
Oh Dong-woon, the chief of the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials, assured the public that the warrant would be carried out “within the deadline.” He also emphasized efforts to ensure the process goes smoothly without major disturbances. “We aim for a smooth process without major disturbances, but we are also coordinating to mobilize police,” said Oh.

In response to the mounting protests outside Yoon’s home, investigators issued a stern warning to anyone attempting to block the execution of the arrest warrant. “We consider actions such as setting up various barricades and locking iron gates to resist the execution of our arrest warrant as obstruction of official duties,” Oh Dong-woon stated. He further emphasised that those attempting to block the process “could be prosecuted.”
This development follows intense political tension surrounding Yoon Suk Yeol's impeachment and legal troubles. Authorities have made it clear that any interference with the arrest will lead to legal consequences, as they work to carry out their investigation within the set timeframe.
