‘Our broken hearts were lifted’: Virginia Giuffre’s kin hail arrest of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor

The arrest of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor has drawn an emotional response from the family of Virginia Giuffre, one of the most prominent survivors linked to the Jeffrey Epstein files.

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, the younger brother of King Charles III, was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office — a development Giuffre’s family described as long-awaited.

‘No one is above the law’: Family reacts

In a statement released on Thursday, Giuffre’s siblings reportedly said the arrest had brought them a sense of relief.

“At last, today, our broken hearts have been lifted at the news that no one is above the law, not even royalty,” their statement reportedly read.

The family also thanked the UK’s Thames Valley Police for their investigation, adding, “On behalf of our sister, Virginia Roberts Giuffre, we extend our gratitude to the UK’s Thames Valley Police for their investigation, and the arrest of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.”

For the family, the moment symbolised accountability after years of public scrutiny, legal battles and personal loss.

Who was Virginia Giuffre 

Giuffre, an American survivor who became one of the most recognisable voices in the Epstein case, died by suicide in April 2025 at the age of 41.

She had alleged that Epstein trafficked her to Andrew when she was a teenager. According to her claims, she was forced into sexual encounters with Andrew on multiple occasions when she was 17.

In 2021, Giuffre filed a civil lawsuit in New York accusing Andrew of sexual abuse. The case was settled in 2022 through a multimillion-dollar agreement, without any admission of liability from Andrew.

Although Giuffre’s allegations and Andrew’s association with Epstein led to his removal from official royal duties and the loss of military titles and patronages, the latest arrest is not directly tied to the sexual abuse claims. The arrest is linked to the allegations that, during his tenure as a UK trade envoy, Andrew shared confidential information with Epstein.

Giuffre’s former attorney, Sigrid McCawley, said the development reflected Giuffre’s years of advocacy.

“Virginia Giuffre worked for years to shine a light on the crimes being committed by Epstein and his co-conspirators and to send the message that no one should be above the law, and the arrest of Andrew Mountbatten Windsor today is a step toward that accountability,” she said, as quoted by CBS News.

A legacy of speaking out

For more than a decade, Giuffre spoke publicly about her experiences, positioning herself as an advocate for survivors of sexual abuse and trafficking. She detailed her account in her memoir Nobody’s Girl: A Memoir of Surviving Abuse and Fighting for Justice, published after her death.

Her accusations played a pivotal role in exposing Epstein’s network, which ultimately led to criminal proceedings against associates including Ghislaine Maxwell, and sparked investigations and civil cases across multiple jurisdictions.

With Andrew’s arrest, Giuffre’s family say they feel a measure of vindication — a moment they believe affirms her long-standing message that power and status must not shield anyone from scrutiny under the law.
