Jerusalem: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed his gratitude to US President Donald Trump for his "full support" regarding Israel's actions in Gaza. This came after the successful completion of the sixth hostage-prisoner exchange under a nearly month-long truce.

The exchange involved three Israeli hostages held in Gaza being traded for 369 Palestinian prisoners detained in Israeli jails. Despite earlier tension and threats from Hamas over the implementation of the truce, the deal was successfully concluded.

Trump's firm stance

Netanyahu's office acknowledged Trump's role in the swap, saying: "President Trump's firm stance led to the release of three of our hostages today, despite Hamas previously refusing to release them." Trump had previously warned that "all hell" would break loose if all Israeli hostages were not released by the deadline.

In a post on social media, Trump had emphasised that Israel should decide how to respond to the conclusion of the exchange, with full US backing for Israel’s decisions.
