New Delhi: The Modi cabinet is gearing up for a reshuffle now that the Bihar Assembly polls are over. According to sources within BJP, an official announcement would be made soon.

Jyothiraditya Scindia, who had left Congress for BJP and Sushil Kumar Modi who was dropped from the Bihar cabinet are two confirmed berths in the reshuffle.

As Kerala is slated for Assembly elections next year, due representation will be given to the state. PK Krishnadas, who is unhappy over being dropped from the state responsibilities, is one among the strong names under consideration

Himanta Biswa Sarma from Assam, where Assembly elections will be held next year, is one other person expected to be given a ministerial post.

Meanwhile, it is expected that the NDA government is likely to pick young and fresh faces to his cabinet this time. Regional parties are also expected to find spot in the cabinet after the reshuffle which comes at a crucial time politically.

As Assembly elections will be held in Kerala, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry next year, party leaders from these states will find a place in the cabinet.

As BJP is eyeing the West Bengal seat, an MP from the state is likely to get a ministerial post. Babul Supriyo and Debashree Chaudhuri are already representing Bengal in union ministry. It is expected that SS Ahluwalia or Locket Chatterjee or Roopa Ganguly may get a ticket.

Also, Shahnawaz Hussain, Meenakshi Lekhi and GVL Narasimha Rao are also awaiting entry to Modi cabinet.

Regional parties like JDU, LJP and Apna Dal are also expected to be given representation in the government.

BJP is also expected to offer a ministerial post to Punjab in the vacancy of Shiromani Akali Dal’s Harsimrat Kaur Badal who resigned recently. This is expected to cool off the farmer protest in the state.

The RSS leaders have already met Prime Minister Modi regarding the reshuffle of the cabinet to inform of their recommendations. It has been 18 months since second Modi government assumed office. There are 53 members in the cabinet at present.
