Washington: A girl who vanished as a child more than three decades ago has been found alive, marking an unexpected development in a case that had long remained unresolved. Authorities confirmed that the disappearance of a 13-year-old in Arizona, which had puzzled investigators for years, has now reached a significant breakthrough.

Breakthrough in a long-standing case

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office announced on Wednesday that Christina Marie Plante, who went missing under suspicious circumstances over 30 years ago, has recently been located.

Plante had disappeared from Star Valley, a small town situated northeast of Phoenix, leaving behind a mystery that remained unsolved for decades. Officials stated that the latest development followed the emergence of a fresh lead in the case.

While authorities have not revealed specific details about how she was found, they indicated that advances in technology played a key role in generating new information that helped move the investigation forward. It is also not yet clear when or where she was located.

The day she disappeared

Christina, described at the time as a blonde-haired, blue-eyed girl, went missing in May 1994. She had reportedly gone to check on her horse at a stable near her home, after which she never returned.

Missing person alerts issued at the time noted that she was last seen wearing a white T-shirt, multicoloured shorts, and black tennis shoes.

Authorities considered her disappearance suspicious and expressed concerns that she might have been in danger.

Years of search efforts

Following her disappearance, Christina’s details were entered into a national database for missing children. Posters bearing her image were circulated not only locally but also across the state and other parts of the country.

Officials said that the case remained open and under active investigation for many years. Detectives periodically revisited evidence and followed up on any new information that emerged over time.

Identity confirmed, details withheld

Authorities have now confirmed that Christina Marie Plante has been found alive after 32 years. Investigators have also positively verified her identity.

However, officials stated that no further information would be disclosed, citing respect for her privacy and well-being.
