London: The United Kingdom’s Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) has unveiled a cutting-edge dark web platform called "Silent Courier" to recruit foreign spies and gather sensitive intelligence securely and anonymously. Launched on September 19, 2025, this initiative represents a major advancement in espionage tactics, enabling MI6 to connect with potential informants worldwide, especially those inside authoritarian regimes.

Silent Courier operates on the Tor network, a part of the internet designed to preserve users’ anonymity. Through this platform, individuals with access to vital information about terrorism, hostile intelligence operations, or international instability can securely communicate with MI6 without risking exposure.

MI6 has provided a step-by-step instructional video on its verified social media handles to guide prospective informants on accessing and using the portal safely. The agency also stresses best practices such as using VPNs and “clean” devices unlinked to personal identities to maintain operational security.

Outgoing MI6 Chief Sir Richard Moore, speaking at his final press conference in Istanbul, appealed directly to people living under regimes in Russia, China, Iran, and North Korea, urging them: “Come to Silent Courier; share your truths with courage. For your safety, we have designed this platform to safeguard your identity and communications.”

Moore emphasised that MI6’s “virtual door is open” to anyone willing to cooperate, underscoring the agency’s proactive stance in securing new sources amid growing geopolitical tensions and hybrid warfare challenges.

Silent Courier builds on precedents like the CIA’s 2023 campaign to attract Russian informants using social media and encrypted channels.
