Peshawar: Pakistani security forces on Friday foiled a major suicide attack on a military camp in North Waziristan’s Mir Ali area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, killing four terrorists, including a suicide bomber, officials said.

According to security sources, the attackers attempted to storm the camp early on Friday when a suicide bomber detonated an explosives-laden vehicle at the boundary wall, causing a powerful explosion. Three other militants tried to enter the premises but were swiftly neutralised by alert troops, officials added.

“There were no casualties among the security personnel. All four terrorists, including the suicide bomber, were eliminated in the exchange,” a security official said.

The incident comes amid an intensified wave of militant activity in Pakistan’s northwestern tribal belt bordering Afghanistan. Over the past two days, 88 militants—reportedly linked to the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and supported by elements across the border—have been killed in counterterrorism operations across the region.

In a statement issued Thursday, the Pakistan Army said that 34 TTP terrorists were killed in a series of intelligence-based operations conducted in North Waziristan, South Waziristan, and Bannu districts earlier this week.

Pakistan has witnessed a sharp rise in terror attacks in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan provinces since the TTP ended its ceasefire with the government in November 2022. Security forces have since intensified their counterterror efforts to curb the growing militant threat along the Afghan border.
