New Delhi: CPM Politburo member M.A. Baby came out in support of Palestine in connection with the violent clashes between Hamas and Israel.

Former Kerala Education Minister said that the Union Government had taken a "unilateral stand" on the conflict and opined that "Modi's support contradicts India's historical position on the Israel-Palestine dispute."

"Prior to the recent events, 248 Palestinians, including 40 children, were killed due to Israeli attacks this year. Every day, Israeli military forces kill at least one Palestinian citizen. However, the media fails to recognise that Hamas attack is a form of retaliation against Israel," said Baby.

Meanwhile, the Politburo of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) strongly condemned attacks and counter-attacks between Hamas and the Israeli forces.

"Already, many human lives have been lost, and the situation is poised to escalate causing more deaths and miseries. This confrontation must end. The most right-wing Netanyahu government in Israel has been indiscriminately occupying Palestine lands and establishing Jewish settlements in the West Bank," says a press statement issued by the politburo.

CPM also called for immediate cessation of the conflict and demanded implementation of United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolution for a two-nation solution.
