Kuwait issues a radiation safety advisory following strikes near Iran's Bushehr nuclear plant. Read the latest updates and safety guidelines for residents here.

Kuwait City: Kuwaiti authorities issued a rare radiation advisory, urging residents to follow safety precautions amid escalating tensions and reported strikes near Iran’s Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant.
In a public message on Wednesday, Kuwait’s National Guard advised people to stay indoors, avoid unnecessary travel, and keep doors and windows tightly closed as a precaution against any potential radiation exposure.
Why Kuwait issued the radiation warning
Officials said the alert comes in response to recent military activity near the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant, located along Iran’s Gulf coast.
Authorities reassured residents that the facility is over 240 km away from Kuwait, which would significantly reduce the impact in case of any radiation leak. However, precautionary measures were issued due to rising concerns over nuclear safety risks in the region.
IAEA confirms strike near nuclear facility
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) confirmed that a projectile struck the Bushehr plant on Tuesday. Iranian officials reported no damage to the reactor and no casualties among staff.
This incident follows another near-miss on March 17, when a projectile landed close to the facility during ongoing military operations.
The IAEA has warned that even nearby strikes pose serious risks to nuclear infrastructure, urging all sides to exercise restraint to avoid a potential nuclear disaster scenario.
Russia withdraws personnel
In a further sign of concern, Russia began withdrawing personnel from the Bushehr facility following what it described as a “reckless” strike near the reactor.
Russia has played a key role in building and maintaining the plant and was previously involved in developing additional nuclear reactors at the site before the conflict escalated.
