In response to the escalating violence in the Middle East, Israel has criticised the United Nations for its failure to hold Iran accountable for recent missile attacks. This came after António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, called for a ceasefire on X (formerly known as  Twitter).

"I condemn the broadening of the Middle East conflict with escalation after escalation. This must stop. We absolutely need a ceasefire," Guterres tweeted.

Israel’s official X account, run by the Israeli Foreign Ministry, swiftly responded to the message, pointing out the absence of any mention of Iran’s role in the ongoing conflict. "We condemn your inability to string together a tweet which holds Iran responsible for firing 181 ballistic missiles at 10 million Israeli civilians," the tweet read.

The sharp exchange comes after Iran launched over 180 missiles targeting Israel, further intensifying the region's tensions. According to the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF), the nation’s air defence systems successfully intercepted a large number of these missiles, preventing widespread damage.

However, Israel's air force, along with its planes, air defense systems, and air traffic control, continued operating without disruption following the attacks. Military sources emphasised that the situation was being managed effectively despite the threat.

Military sources also reported that the United States provided assistance by helping detect the missile threat and intercepting some of the projectiles.
