Iran’s Revolutionary Guards claimed they targeted a US airbase in retaliation for an alleged American attack near Bandar Abbas airport, warning Washington of stronger action if tensions escalate further.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) on Thursday claimed responsibility for an attack on a US airbase, saying the strike was launched in response to what Tehran described as an earlier American assault near Bandar Abbas airport.
According to Iran’s Tasnim news agency, the IRGC said the operation was carried out at around 4:50 am local time.
While Iranian officials did not disclose the exact location of the targeted American base, the statement marked a sharp escalation in tensions between Washington and Tehran amid an already fragile ceasefire in the region.
The Guards alleged that US forces had conducted an ‘aggressive’ military operation near Bandar Abbas, a strategically important port city located close to the Strait of Hormuz.
The waterway remains one of the world’s most critical oil transit routes and has become a major flashpoint during the ongoing conflict.
In its statement, the IRGC warned the United States against carrying out any further attacks, saying any repeat of such actions would invite a “more decisive” retaliation. Iranian authorities also said the ‘aggressor’ would bear full responsibility for the consequences of future escalation.
The latest confrontation comes just days after the United States confirmed a series of strikes targeting Iranian military infrastructure and drone-related activities in southern Iran.
Washington has repeatedly maintained that its operations were defensive in nature and aimed at protecting maritime security around the Strait of Hormuz.
The conflict has already disrupted global shipping traffic and triggered fresh concerns over oil supply chains and energy prices worldwide.
Thousands of commercial vessels remain stranded or delayed due to security threats in the Gulf region.
Despite ongoing diplomatic efforts to preserve the ceasefire and restart negotiations, the fresh exchange of attacks has raised fears of a broader military confrontation in West Asia.
