Iranian Consulate assures Indian citizens` safety in Iran. Situation controlled, protests legitimate. False rumors about Supreme Leader debunked. Verify news.

The Consulate General of Iran in Hyderabad has said that the situation in Iran is stable and fully under control, adding that there is no threat to Indian citizens living in or travelling to the country. The remarks came amid reports of protests and speculation on social media.
In an official statement, the Consulate General said that the Iranian authorities have taken all necessary measures to ensure the safety and well-being of foreign nationals, including Indian citizens.
The mission referred to Article 27 of the Iranian Constitution, which allows citizens to assemble and protest peacefully. It said the current demonstrations, largely driven by economic concerns, are considered a legitimate right, as acknowledged by Iran’s Supreme Leader on January 3, 2026, and other state officials.
The statement added that while protests are essentially peaceful, some foreign actors are trying to politicise the situation and incite violence by “shedding crocodile tears” and issuing statements of false sympathy for the Iranian people.
Claims about Supreme Leader leaving Iran rejected
The Consulate strongly dismissed recent media reports suggesting that Iran’s Supreme Leader was preparing to leave the country, calling them “false, baseless and fabricated”. It said such rumours are part of a propaganda campaign run by certain American and Israeli media outlets and their affiliates.
It also referred to similar misinformation spread during the recent 12-day conflict, saying that unverified content was circulated then as well to influence public opinion.
The Consulate said that spreading unverified and disrespectful content violates journalistic ethics. While appreciating responsible Indian media, it urged outlets to verify information through official and credible sources before publishing sensitive reports on Iran.
