The 40-year-old Democrat received more than 61.5 per cent of the votes, defeating Republican challenger Dave Beckwith, who secured 36.4 per cent.

Subramanyam previously served as a technology policy advisor to former US President Barack Obama. Born in Houston to Indian parents, he has built a career spanning public service, law and politics.

Subramanyam’s interest in public service took shape during his time at Tulane University in New Orleans. He helped organise volunteers to rebuild communities affected by Hurricane Katrina.

He later worked on Capitol Hill as a policy aide, focusing on expanding access to healthcare. He also helped build bipartisan support for immigration reform and drafted legislation aimed at improving job opportunities and funding for veterans, senior citizens and working families.

After earning his law degree with honours from Northwestern University, he joined the Obama administration as a White House technology policy advisor.

He subsequently started a small business in Loudoun County, Virginia, while also volunteering as an emergency medical technician and firefighter.

Subramanyam entered elected politics in 2019, winning a seat in the Virginia General Assembly. He served two terms before moving to the Virginia State Senate.

In 2024, he was elected to the US House of Representatives, representing Virginia’s 10th congressional district. His latest victory secures him another term in Congress.
