Dubai: An Indian-flagged commercial vessel has sunk in the Red Sea off the coast of Yemen following an attack by an unidentified projectile, local officials confirmed on Tuesday.

All 14 crew members aboard the vessel, identified as the Faize Noore Oliya, were successfully rescued after the incident occurred south of the key Yemeni port city of Hodeida. The crew consisted of 13 Indian nationals and one Yemeni citizen, according to a local official from the coastal city of Mokha.

Writing on X, Indian Shipping Minister Sarbananda Sonowal stated that the vessel was “hit by a projectile near Yemeni waters”.

Coast guard teams responded swiftly to extract the sailors safely from the water following the strike, preventing any casualties despite the total loss of the commercial vessel.
