Donald Trump attacks Zohran Mamdani after his NYC mayoral primary victory, calling him a ‘communist lunatic’

New York: US President Donald Trump has reacted to the victory of Indian-origin leftist leader Zohran Mamdani in the Democratic primary for New York City's mayoral race, branding him a “100% communist lunatic.” Trump also said he “looks terrible” and took aim at Mamdani’s progressive allies, including Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) and Senator Chuck Schumer, following former Governor Andrew Cuomo’s concession in the tightly watched contest.
“It’s finally happened, the Democrats have crossed the line. Zohran Mamdani, a 100% Communist Lunatic, has just won the Dem Primary, and is on his way to becoming Mayor”, Trump said in a post on his Truth Social platform.
Trump continued his criticism by mocking Mamdani’s appearance and voice, questioning his intelligence, and attacking his allies.
“We’ve had Radical Lefties before, but this is getting a little ridiculous. He looks TERRIBLE, his voice is grating, he’s not very smart, he’s got AOC+3, Dummies ALL, backing him,” the post read.
Trump also targeted Democratic Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, referencing his support for Mamdani in stark terms.
“And even our Great Palestinian Senator, Cryin’ Chuck Schumer, is groveling over him. Yes, this is a big moment in the History of our Country!” he added.
Results were not yet final, but Mamdani -- who is just 33 and would become the city's first Muslim mayor -- had such a commanding lead that his biggest rival, former New York governor Andrew Cuomo, conceded defeat overnight.
Mamdani's success was seen as a rebuke to Democratic centrists who backed the powerful Cuomo, as the party flails nationally in search of a way to counter Republican President Donald Trump's hard-right movement.
