Dubai, United Arab Emirates: Elon Musk has called for the United States federal government to "delete entire agencies" as part of his broader agenda to overhaul government spending and restructure its priorities. Speaking via video call at the World Governments Summit in Dubai on Thursday, Musk made several controversial remarks, including calling for drastic reductions in government bureaucracy.
Musk, who was wearing a black T-shirt emblazoned with the words “Tech Support,” argued that the US government is currently operating under "rule of the bureaucracy" rather than "rule of the people" and democracy. He added, "If we don’t remove the roots of the weed, then it’s easy for the weed to grow back." Musk’s comments were particularly striking, given his influence as the world’s wealthiest individual and his role as head of the Department of Government Efficiency.

Musk’s comments extended beyond just government agencies, touching on the US's role in global affairs. He stated that the US should adopt a more isolationist approach, especially in the Middle East. Musk said, "Basically, America should mind its own business, rather than push for regime change all over the place."
He also referenced the Trump administration’s efforts to dismantle international aid organisations like USAID, saying, “There’s like the National Endowment for Democracy. But I’m like, ‘Okay, well, how much democracy have they achieved lately?’”
Focus on Artificial Intelligence, diversity work
The tech mogul also raised concerns over the potential consequences of artificial intelligence. Musk cautioned that if AI were designed with a focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), it could "decide that there’s too many men in power and execute them."
Furthermore, Musk commented on the growing influence of AI, mentioning the release of Grok 3, a new AI chatbot from his social media platform X. He also shared his thoughts on Sam Altman’s management of OpenAI, calling it “akin to a nonprofit aimed at saving the Amazon rainforest becoming a lumber company that chops down the trees.”
In addition to his political and technological commentary, Musk revealed plans for the “Dubai Loop,” a new high-speed transit system in line with his Boring Company’s work. Although details of the project remain scarce, Musk promised the system would operate like a "wormhole," providing instant transport across the city.
