Glendale, United States: Erika Kirk, the 36-year-old widow of slain right-wing activist Charlie Kirk, told a stadium of over 60,000 people in Glendale, Arizona, that she forgives the man accused of killing her husband.

"My husband Charlie, he wanted to save young men just like the one who took his life," she said, addressing a crowd that included US President Donald Trump.

"That man, that young man. I forgive him," Kirk said, her voice breaking. "I forgive him because it was what Christ did. And it's what Charlie would do. The answer to hate is not hate."

Charlie Kirk’s death

Kirk, 31, was shot and killed on September 10 during a public debate at a Utah university campus. Known for using his vast social media reach, podcast audience and university appearances, he worked to strengthen Trump’s support among young voters and promoted a nationalist, Christian-centric political ideology.

Suspect and charges

Authorities identified the alleged shooter as 22-year-old Tyler Robinson. Investigators said Robinson justified the killing by citing the "hatred" he claimed Kirk spread.

Kirk, a staunch advocate of conservative Christian values, was known for making vitriolic statements against minorities, including transgender people, Muslims, and African Americans.

Robinson has been charged with seven offences, including aggravated murder. Prosecutors have announced they will seek the death penalty.
