From AI-generated videos showing Donald Trump being thrown into a hazardous waste bin to memes celebrating the Democratic victory, social media was flooded with reactions after the 2026 US midterm results.

The Democratic Party’s gains in the US midterm elections have triggered a wave of memes, AI-generated videos and celebratory posts across social media, with #BlueTsunami and #BlueWave emerging as popular hashtags among users reacting to the results.
Much of the online conversation has centred on President Donald Trump. One AI-generated video shows several men carrying Trump towards a waste bin marked ‘hazardous waste’, accompanied by the caption: “Don't forget to throw away your trash.”
Other videos use ocean waves and flood imagery to portray the Democratic gains as a force sweeping across the country.
The phrase ‘Blue Tsunami’ has become a recurring theme in these posts. One user described the result as more than a blue wave, writing: “That wasn't a Blue Wave, that's a Blue TSUNAMI.”
Another post declared, “BLUENAMI imposing!! MAGA RIP”, using the hashtag to celebrate the Republican setback.
The reactions have not been limited to memes targeting Trump. Several posts have focused on the Democratic Party's Senate victory. A GIF of singer Taylor Swift cheering was shared with the caption, “DEMOCRATS ARE TAKING THE SENATE”, while another video used a clip of former US president Barack Obama flipping a microphone, with the words “The #BlueTsunami coming”.
Some users also framed the results as a statement about American democracy. “The People have spoken! US democracy is not dead,” read one post, reflecting the celebratory tone of several reactions.
The online response follows a major shift in the balance of power in Washington. Democrats have won control of the US Senate and are nearing a majority in the House of Representatives, according to the latest election results.
The outcome marks a setback for Trump and his Republican Party.
