Los Angeles: An armed man was arrested at President Donald Trump's golf course in Southern California two days before the US president's scheduled visit, prompting an investigation involving local authorities and the FBI.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said the suspect, identified as 38-year-old Jeanine John Taele of Downey, California, was taken into custody on Sunday afternoon at Trump National Golf Club in Rancho Palos Verdes

According to the sheriff's office, plainclothes federal agents noticed the suspect "walking throughout the golf course grounds taking photographs and videos and appearing to monitor security-planning activities."

Trump arrived at the golf club by helicopter on Tuesday evening to attend a fundraising dinner hosted by the Republican National Committee.

During the detention, deputies recovered a 16-round magazine loaded with hollow-point ammunition from the suspect's pants pocket, authorities said.

A subsequent search of the suspect's vehicle led investigators to a loaded pistol with a round chambered, along with another loaded magazine containing hollow-point ammunition, the sheriff's office said.

Investigators from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department and the FBI's counterterrorism unit later searched Taele's residence, where they recovered an assault-style rifle, a pistol, a bulletproof vest, high-capacity magazines, ammunition, two radios, as well as "multiple notebooks containing concerning statements."

The sheriff's office said the case has been presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office, which will determine whether criminal charges will be filed.

Trump has faced multiple assassination attempts since launching his 2024 presidential campaign, making security around the president a heightened concern.
