Muhammad Asim, reportedly a senior operational commander of Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed, was killed along with his wife Huma and 15-year-old son Talha when a 22-wheeler trailer crashed into their car in Lahore's Garhi Shahu area on October 15.

Muhammad Asim, believed to have been a senior operational commander of the Pakistan-based terrorist outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), has been killed along with his wife and son when a heavy trailer crashed into their car in Lahore's Garhi Shahu area on Thursday, October 15, 2026.
Pakistani police and rescue officials confirmed the deaths of three members of the Asim family -- Muhammad Asim, aged 42, his wife Huma Asim, 35, and their 15-year-old son Talha Asim -- when a 22-wheeler trailer loaded with cement rammed into their car from behind at a traffic signal on Allama Iqbal Road.
The family belonged to the Shah Jamal neighbourhood in Lahore's Ichhra area.
According to Rescue 1122, the control room received a call about the accident at 12:32 am on Thursday. The caller reported that the trailer had crushed the car while it was waiting at the traffic signal, severely damaging the vehicle and trapping its occupants inside.
Rescue teams reached the scene and had to cut open the wrecked vehicle to retrieve the bodies of the three victims, which were then shifted to a hospital for formalities.
Eyewitnesses attributed the accident to brake failure of the trailer. However, according to the First Information Report (FIR) filed by police, the trailer driver was allegedly driving recklessly when the vehicle struck the car from behind, causing the fatal collision.
Police registered a case on the complaint of the couple's surviving son, Muhammad bin Asim, who stated in his complaint that he had lost his father, mother and brother in the accident.
The trailer driver and other crew members fled the scene, prompting police to launch efforts to trace them.
Reports identifying Muhammad Asim as a Jaish-e-Mohammed operational commander have been circulating across social media and certain news outlets, with claims that he was involved in the group's operational activities, recruitment and fundraising, and was responsible for maintaining the group's ties with Hamas for inter-terrorist network coordination.
However, these claims regarding Asim's terror links and his alleged operational responsibilities have not been independently confirmed by mainstream Pakistani media outlets.
The death of Asim, if confirmed as a JeM commander, would mark the fourth major setback for the Pakistani terror group in 2026, and the second death within the last four days.
Jaish-e-Mohammed, founded by Maulana Masood Azhar, is a Deobandi-jihadist terrorist organization active in Kashmir. The group has been responsible for several high-profile terror attacks, including the 2001 Parliament attack, the 2016 Pathankot airbase attack, the 2016 Uri attack and the 2019 Pulwama attack.
In May 2025, India launched missile strikes on JeM base camps in Bahawalpur, Pakistan, in retaliation for the Pahalgam attack. Masood Azhar later claimed that several of his family members were killed in the strikes, and Indian officials stated that his brother Abdul Rauf Azhar, who had taken command of JeM in 2007, was killed in the strikes.
In September 2025, rare admissions from top JeM commanders confirmed the destruction of their training camps in Bahawalpur, with commander Masood Ilyas Kashmiri revealing that Indian forces had eliminated family members of Masood Azhar during the strike.
Following the destruction of JeM's key facilities, including its headquarters Markaz Subhanallah and four additional training camps in Indian strikes under Operation Sindoor on May 7, 2025, the group initiated a large-scale reconstruction effort.
In October 2025, JeM announced the formation of its first women's brigade, Jamat ul-Muminat, led by Sadiya Azhar, sister of Masood Azhar, with the stated purpose of preparing and employing female suicide bombers for terrorist acts.
