
Denver: A fire broke out on an American Airlines plane at Denver International Airport on Thursday evening, leading to an emergency evacuation of passengers. The aircraft was parked at Gate C38 when the blaze started, with thick black smoke rising above the tarmac, according to airport officials.
A video circulating online showed passengers exiting through the windows, while flames were reported near the engine of the aircraft. The incident prompted a swift response from emergency personnel.
According to a post on the social platform X by Denver International Airport, 12 people were taken to hospitals with minor injuries.Ā
Flight details and diversion
The flight had taken off from Colorado Springs Airport and was originally headed to Dallas Fort Worth International Airport. However, it was diverted to Denver International Airport due to the issue. The aircraft involved was a Boeing 737-800.
Statement from American Airlines
American said in a statement that the flight experienced an engine-related issue after taxiing to the gate. There was no immediate clarification on exactly when the plane caught fire.

The 172 customers and six crew members deplaned and are being relocated to the terminal. Despite the alarming situation, no injuries have been reported so far. Firefighters put out the blaze by the evening, an airport spokesperson told media outlets. The FAA said it will investigate.
