Abu Dhabi: In a momentous recognition, the UAE has named a road 'George Matthew Street' after Dr. George Matthew, a native of Pathanamthitta, Kerala. This accolade celebrates Dr. Matthew's remarkable contributions to healthcare and his enduring service to the nation over nearly six decades. The road named 'George Matthew Street' is situated near Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City in Abu Dhabi.
This recognition comes in light of Dr. Matthew's contributions to the healthcare sector of the country, particularly his work alongside Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the UAE's founding father.

Dr. Matthew expressed his gratitude, viewing this accolade as an acknowledgment of his lifelong dedication to the UAE. The nation has previously honoured him with citizenship and the Abu Dhabi Award, the highest civilian award for community service.
Dr. Matthew's journey in the UAE began about 57 years ago when he arrived in Abu Dhabi in 1967 at the age of 26. Inspired by a missionary friend heading to the USA, he chose to focus his efforts in Al Ain. He is recognised as the first government doctor in Al Ain, where he established the first clinic under Sheikh Zayed's guidance. Over the decades, Dr. Matthew's career flourished in tandem with the UAE's growth.
