Kozhikode: Though CPM has maintained it has no affinity to the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), ground realities suggest the other way around.

Interestingly, the CPM-IUML bonhomie has bloomed in UAE too. In the upcoming Sharjah Indian Association elections, IUML affiliate KMCC has decided to join hands with CPM. KMCC severed ties with Congress and decided to face elections by keeping CPM’s cultural wing, MAS, on its side.

Sharjah Indian Association is one of the largest associations outside of Kerala, with more than 15000 members. The association has its own school and also intervenes in resolving issues in social circles. The association also has more than 20 Malayali associations affiliated with it, with the majority having representation in Congress groups.

According to reports, the UAE Congress leadership did not meet the demands of the KMCC, resulting in a split. Congress leadership also refused to give up its claim on the president's post and was only prepared to offer the role of general secretary to KMCC.

Meanwhile, this is not the first time KMCC has been severing ties with Congress. KMCC-MAS had previously joined hands in the 2009-11 period but later went in two separate ways.

It is learned that IUML and Congress leaders in Kerala intervened and tried to settle the issues between KMCC and Congress. However, attempts did not yield any results.
