Škoda's next upcoming compact Sports Utility Vehicle for the India market, which is expected to roll out in 2025, will be named Kylaq. The name, inspired by the Sanskrit word for crystal, reflects both the vehicle's pure qualities and its connection to Mt Kailash, according to the company.

Positioned as the 'SUV for you', the Kylaq marks Škoda Auto India's first venture into the compact SUV market. Built on the MQB-A0-IN platform -- shared with the Kushaq SUV and Slavia sedan -- the Kylaq benefits from a development collaboration between teams in India and the Czech Republic.

According to Skoda, this platform emphasizes versatility, safety, and dynamic performance, with a focus on localization, low maintenance costs, and a seamless ownership experience.

The Kylaq will introduce Škoda's Modern Solid design language to India for the first time, featuring high ground clearance and ample wheel arch space to handle uneven terrain.

The SUV will maintain traditional Škoda design elements while incorporating new details such as refined DRL light signatures and a hexagon pattern on the sides and rear. Currently undergoing extensive testing across India, the Kylaq is gearing up for production with increased local supplier engagement. Although based on a larger platform, its design ensures it retains a spacious feel within a compact footprint.

Following the launch of the Kushaq SUV in July 2021 and the Slavia sedan in March 2022, both of which contributed to Škoda Auto India's record sales and rapid achievement of over 100,000 vehicles sold, the Kylaq will be the third India-specific model developed by Škoda Auto India.

Petr Janeba, Brand Director of Škoda Auto India, commented on the name reveal: "The new Kylaq is created for the Indian market, and we wanted our customers to be involved in every step of this significant launch. Our ‘Name Your Škoda’ campaign, which received over 200,000 entries, reflects the strong connection and pride our customers have in the Škoda brand. Naming this car is a crucial part of our process, and the Kylaq represents a major milestone in the rapidly growing SUV segment in India. Developed collaboratively by our teams in India and Europe, this new model will be manufactured locally and is a testament to our commitment to the Indian market."
