Central government employees are awaiting the July 2026 DA revision, with the anticipated 3% hike and arrears still awaiting official approval.

Central government employees and pensioners are still awaiting the Centre's decision on the July 2026 Dearness Allowance (DA) revision, with the anticipated 3% increase remaining unconfirmed as of October 22.
The delay has prolonged uncertainty for millions of beneficiaries hoping for higher monthly salaries and pensions, along with arrears if the revision is approved retrospectively.
The proposed increase is expected to raise DA from 60% to 63% of basic pay. However, the government has not officially announced the revised rate or provided a date for the next decision.
The Union Cabinet did not hold its expected weekly meeting on October 21, further delaying hopes of an announcement during the festive season.
When can employees expect the DA hike?
No confirmed date has been announced. With expectations of a decision around Dussehra having passed without an update, attention has shifted to whether the Centre will approve the revision before Diwali, which falls on November 8 this year.
However, employees should not treat this as a confirmed deadline.
Previous DA revisions have been announced on different dates, and no fixed rule requires the government to announce the increase at a particular Cabinet meeting.
The Finance Ministry can also issue the necessary decision separately.
The government announced the last DA revision in April 2026, increasing the allowance by two percentage points, from 58% to 60%, effective January 1, 2026.
How much could salaries increase after a 3% DA hike?
If the anticipated increase is approved, the additional monthly amount will depend on an employee's basic pay.
A 3% increase would add ₹540 per month for an employee with basic pay of ₹18,000 and ₹1,347 for someone drawing basic pay of ₹44,900.
The following calculations illustrate the potential increase:
- ₹18,000 basic pay: ₹540 extra per month
- ₹25,500 basic pay: ₹765 extra per month
- ₹35,400 basic pay: ₹1,062 extra per month
- ₹44,900 basic pay: ₹1,347 extra per month
- ₹56,100 basic pay: ₹1,683 extra per month
These figures represent the difference in DA alone, before any applicable deductions or changes to other salary components.
Will employees receive arrears from July 1?
The pending revision is expected to take effect from July 1, 2026, if the government approves it with retrospective effect. In that case, eligible employees could receive arrears covering the difference between the existing and revised DA rates for the applicable period.
For example, an employee drawing basic pay of ₹44,900 would be entitled to an additional ₹1,347 in DA for each eligible month.
Three months of arrears would amount to ₹4,041, while the final amount would depend on the effective date, the period covered by the official order and the payment schedule.
Central government pensioners could also benefit if the corresponding Dearness Relief (DR) revision is approved. DR helps offset the impact of inflation on pensioners' pensions.
Why is the DA revision important?
The government revises Dearness Allowance periodically to help employees manage the impact of rising prices on household expenses.
The July 2026 revision is based on the relevant inflation data, including the All-India Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers.
Employee organizations have urged the government to announce the pending revision, citing the pressure rising living costs put on employees and pensioners.
Until the Centre issues an official announcement, however, the proposed 3% increase, the possible 63% DA rate and the payment of arrears remain subject to government approval.
Employees will have to wait for a formal decision on the revised allowance and when the additional amount may be credited.
