Idukki: The death of a tribal youth at Rajakkad here has been coninuing to remain as a mystery after the natives alleged foul play. The youth named Tharun was found charred to death and chained to the bar of the window of his house. Locals alleged that it is not suicide, but a murder. The forensic team arrived at the house on Saturday and collected evidence.
The body was found tied to the iron bar of one of the windows of his house. It is learnt that Tharun’s mother Saramma had gone to wash clothes when the incident took place. Tharun’s grandmother has been bedridden for a long time. It is hinted that another person also lived with the family. Following Tharun’s death, police took this person into custody for interrogation.
A bottle of kerosene which was found near the house has spiked the suspicion of the police. The former SC/ST Promoter said that there was no kerosene in Tharun’s house or his neighbouring houses.
The workers who were present on the cardamom plantations said that they did not hear any suspicious sounds during the time of the alleged suicide. The neighbouring houses are situated somewhat far from Tharun’s house. Locals also alleged that they saw Tharun speeding away on his scooter at 9 am on the day of the incident.
Shanthanpara police said that further conclusions on the death can be drawn only after getting the forensic and post-mortem report. Tharun was a cardiac patient. His body was shifted to Idukki Medical College for post-mortem.
